Southwest Florida is that part of Florida south of, roughly, Bradenton/ Sarasota and west of the Miami area. It includes the coastal counties of Charlotte, Lee and Collier. Inland counties included are DeSoto, Glades, and Hendry. The bulk of the population is located in the coastal counties which is where our emphasis will be.
Our intention here is to give you a general idea of what to expect in the several communities of coastal Southwest Florida. We don’t want to get into the business of recommending accommodations, restaurants, or anything else. We would defer to Fodor or some other guide book for that. Once in a while, we might break that rule to emphasize an attraction or two.
Sport fishing is a major activity here. If you want to participate, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the regulations governing it. Especially for the salt water species, catch size, weight limits, length limits for certain species, and calendar seasons may apply. It can get a little complicated.
