As a kid, my family spent summers "up north" in the Panhandle at Destin and Panama City. You could melt lead on the street in the summer in downtown PC. You might get some argument that southwest Florida is the [b]est part of the state… most of the regions of the state have something to point to as being outstanding. Have you ever seen a spreading Live Oak tree standing alone in the middle of a rolling paddock on a cool, foggy morning in the northern panhandle? I have fond memories of driving through Jackson county early one morning on my way home to Florida from a visit to Tennessee. US 231 is a lovely drive – or at least it was in 1987.
