In general, the climate is mild with two major hazards:
- hurricanes
- lightning
Yep, lightning. We lead the nation in lightning strikes. People on the beaches, golfers, and others out in the open are at risk, especially if a thunderstorm is somewhere close. (Lightning maps show current conditions.)
In the wet season, thunderstorms happen almost every day. If you hear thunder, get off the beach, get off the golf course, get out of the pool, and stay off the telephone. Do that, and the odds of your becoming a gloomy statistic will decrease.

I use the NHC radar online to plan outside activities. With a little practice you can get pretty good at predicting when rain is coming.
